Knew Home

When I graduated from my undergraduate studies in 2001, I was leaving a home of sorts, as well as a huge wealth of studio space, supplies and incredible peers. I also moved into a much more urban and racially divided community. The paper mache works in this series represent many of my observations of this new community as well as the new world so quickly formed in the wake of the events I witnessed on September 11th.

Without access to a wood shop I had to quickly adapt to small apartment living. Working with cardboard and paper mache, my urge to create works that straddled the divide between flat and dimensional was quenched. These new pieces were displayed in a show titled "Knew Home", a solo show at the Cumberland County Clay College in Vineland NJ.
